Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2025 now oscailte for nominations

Cathaoirleach of Gaillimh le Gaeilge, Dr. John Breslin, announced that Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2025, is now officially open for nominations. He made the announcement at the annual Lón Nollag Chairde Ghaillimh le Gaeilge which was held on Thursday, 19th December in The Skeff Late Bar & Kitchen, Eyre Square, Galway.

Among the attendees were; Bord Stiúrtha Ghaillimh le Gaeilge, members of Coiste Logainmneacha Chathair na Gaillimhe, Gradam sponsors, local business leaders, and Cairde members, who support Gaillimh le Gaeilge year-round. The Cathaoirleach also announced the sponsors for Gradam 25: Galway Advertiser, TG4, Galway Chamber, Galway Bay FM, Fáilte Ireland, Computer Troubleshooters, Platform 94, Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe and Údarás na Gaeltachta.

The Gradam, Galway’s Bilingual Business Award, honours and celebrates companies and organisations that use the Irish language in their brand values and in engaging with customers.

Now in its 23rd year, Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, Galway’s own bilingual business award, recognizes and celebrates companies and organisations that use the Irish language in their day-to-day business in Ireland’s Bilingual City. Gaillimh le Gaeilge, in association with the Galway Advertiser, and TG4 and with the support from Galway Chamber organises Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh. The Gradam is named in honour of the late Seosamh Ó hÓgartaigh, founding member and company secretary of Gaillimh le Gaeilge.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge works in association with Galway City Council, Galway Chamber and other groups in the city to promote Galway as a bilingual city. Gaillimh le Gaeilge receives funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through The National Lottery, Galway City Council and the CAIRDE Ghaillimh le Gaeilge scheme in association with the Galway Chamber.

Dr. John Breslin thanked all those who all those who participated and sponsored the Gradam over it’s 23 year history.

It also offers businesses and organizations a fantastic opportunity to explore and celebrate the benefits of becoming bilingual, connecting with customers, and celebrating and strengthening Galway’s status as an official bilingual city.”

The next stage of the Gradam process is to fill out a short online bilingual application form online at www.gleg.ie and the Gaillimh le Gaeilge team will be in touch to assist and prepare you for the award.

It’s free of charge and you can nominate your own business/organisation or another business/organisation that is based in Galway city. Five categories represent Galway’s thriving business community: Retail, Customer Services, Digital, Tourism & Hospitality and Community & Culture. The closing date for Gradam entries is Friday the 14th of February 2025.
