Galway city is set to light up in celebration of New Year’s Eve once again with the return of the Family Festive Féile, an enchanting event designed for all ages.
On December 31, 2024, from 6pm until 10pm, families from Galway and beyond are invited to embrace the festive spirit with free entertainment, live music, and the cherished tradition of the St Nicholas Collegiate Church bells tolling for a family-friendly countdown at 8pm.
A celebration for all ages
Known for its vibrant street culture, arts, and music, Galway will transform into a haven of celebration, featuring live performances, roaming entertainers, and a bustling festive atmosphere. The event highlights Galway’s unique charm as the City of the Tribes and offers a warm céad míle fáilte to 2025.
Families can enjoy a series of live musical performances at two key locations: St Nicholas Collegiate Church and Cross St in the Latin Quarter. Meanwhile, the lively Bash Brothers Drumming Band will roam the city’s cobblestone streets, spreading joy with energetic beats and engaging performances that appeal to all age groups.

Musical highlights
The evening will kick off at 6pm, with the Galway International Retro Orchestra (GIRO ) on the Cross St stage.
Formed in 2011, GIRO blends traditional music with a global twist, including a collaboration with Japanese céilí drummer, Yuri Kitagawa. Simultaneously, the iconic Screaming Blue Cats will deliver their signature 1950s rockabilly and rock ’n’ roll vibes from the magical setting of St Nicholas Collegiate Church.
At 7:30pm, renowned singer and artist, Barbara Vulso will take to the Cross St stage, followed by the upbeat jazz stylings of Vixen and the Cool Cats at 8:45pm, wrapping up the night at 10pm. Over at St Nicholas, fans of big-band swing can revel in John Conneely’s performance, running from 7:40pm to 9:00pm.
