The first Radisson Red Hotel in Ireland opened in Galway’s newest neighbourhood last week.

Radisson RED Galway, in Crown Square, is skippered by Loughrea native Aidan Donohue, formerly of the Athlone Springs Hotel. The Swedish hotel chain’s red brand of hotels are themed around modern, casual art decor.

Crown Square is a new city district between the Monivea Road, Joyces Road and Tuam Road near Old Mervue, earmarked to be the new home of Galway City Council’s HQ when it moves from City Hall on College Road.

Built by the Rhatigan Group and designed by Dublin architects Henry J Lyons, the 177-room hotel includes the Claddagh Bar & Grill, and the 140-seat Lena’s Rooftop Bar and Restaurant on the eighth floor, with views of Galway Bay, the city, Lough Corrib and mountains of Connemara.

The hotel features nine meeting spaces, including the Tribe Suite, accommodating up to 220 guests. It boasts 400 square metres of event and private meeting areas.

Rates at the Radisson Red start at €130 per night.
