Dr Helen Greally receives her award

Cancer Care West would like to congratulate psychologist Dr Helen Greally who received the 2024 Noemi Fisman Award for Lifetime Clinical Excellence at the 25th World Congress of the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS ) in Maastricht. Dr. Greally is currently the Director of Psychology and Support Services at the Galway based charity where she has worked since 2007.

As a leader in psycho-oncology, Helen developed the charity’s support services for cancer patients and their families, including psycho-oncology, bereavement support, oncology nursing support, and complementary therapies.

She has also established a psycho-oncology service at University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park Hospital, and the Galway Clinic, opened and managed a cancer support centre in Letterkenny, started a psycho-oncology service at University Hospital Letterkenny and supported the development of a cancer support centre in Ballinasloe.

Recognised as a leader nationally, Helen was selected in 2018 to serve as the National Clinical Programme Lead in Psycho-Oncology in Ireland and she has been incredibly successful and productive in the role.

Throughout her career, Helen has devoted great energy to developing evidence-based national models of care to ensure that psycho-oncology care is equitable, accessible, and effective.

Many of the delegates from Ireland who were there to cheer Helen during the presentation have worked with her and benefited from her support and knowledge.

There is no doubt that Helen has dramatically influenced the psycho-oncology services for people living in Ireland. Cancer Care West is delighted and proud to see her contribution recognised on the international stage.
