Galway's role as a national pioneer for wellbeing initiatives was celebrated last week with the launch of a new artwork 2025 calendar from communities in Ballybane, Ballinfoile, Westside and City Centre.

Councillor Helen Ogbu launched the Galway City Community Wellbeing Calendar in the City Museum where an accompanying exhibition is also showing.

The Galway City Community Wellbeing Network was set up last year by Galway City Partnership to promote best practice in relation to physical, emotional and mental wellbeing across the city. It is made up of representatives from the community, health services and other public organisations.

The network secured funding to run art projects across the city and initiate a ground-up celebratory calendar that doubles as a resource to people living in Galway.

The network is encouraging people to get involved in their community and consider making one small change that could improve their health and wellbeing. Galway City Partnership’s Suzanne commented,

“The project has involved new creative groups made up of residents of different ages from diverse backgrounds in accessible locations across the West, Centre and East of the city.

“It has built great awareness of the supports and activities that are available in local communities and how accessing these supports or participating in the various activities can enhance people’s wellbeing.”

The calendar is free and will be available for people to collect from the Museum & Galway City Partnership up until December 20, and it will be available in local libraries in January.
