Tiny Traders Christmas Market gives huge boost to local crafts in prime retail space

Christmas shopping in Galway got a whole lot more local last weekend as the Tiny Traders Christmas Market opened in Edward Square.

The popular local market saw huge crowds over their opening weekend as visitors revelled at the artisan offering from the over 70 local craftspeople showcasing their products in a transformed retail space that had been empty for almost five years.

The event which is on from 10-6 every day until Christmas Eve brought a distinct local feel to the the heart of Galway’s retail landscape in units 7 and 8 in Edward Square where fashion chain NEXT used to be.

“It’s almost surreal to see the Tiny Traders brand right beside commercial behemoths like Dunnes Stores, New Look, Elverys and Starbucks... who would have ever thought that when we started out back in 2017?” remarked Tiny Traders Founder and Managing Director, Paul David Murphy.

“To see our own Galway-based makers and designers setting up shop beside businesses that have turnover in the multi millions is amazing to begin with, but seeing the positive reaction of visitors in our first few days shows that despite the enormous draw of multinational brands there’s still a huge and genuine interest in local art, crafts and produce” he said.

With over 270 active members in the group and close to 100 local traders exhibiting over the 19 days the Tiny Traders Christmas Market is a remarkable boost for small independent businesses in the West of Ireland and one that’s well worth your attention.
