Just when you think you are delightedly organised for the upcoming holiday season, along comes Music for Galway already planning next Christmas!
Music for Galway, and project-oriented choral ensemble, Resurgam, are set on coordinating a massed choral performance of Handel’s Messiah at St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The two classical music organisations are putting the word out now, a year early, to attract sponsorship, and as many singers and soloists as possible to participate.
Handel’s Messiah, first performed in Ireland in 1742, is a major work of historic significance and world renown. When first staged in Dublin almost 300 years ago, 700 people squeezed into tiny Neale’s Music Hall on Fishamble Street, and organisers of next year’s performance in Galay are planning the same.
Singers and musicians across Galway will have a rare and coveted opportunity through community choir Saint Nicholas’ Singers to join Resurgam and Vespera baroque ensemble to perform parts of Galway Messiah.
Singers interested in taking part are encouraged to email [email protected]. Spaces are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
