The Tribesmen Head of the River (THOR ) rowing time trial event will take place on the River Corrib during St Patrick's weekend in 2025.

International and domestic crews are set to partake in the 4.2km race course which flows from the lake, past Menlo Castle, and finishes at the Quincentennial Bridge in Galway. The event has garnered a lot of interest from abroad.

“Crews from the USA, UK, and Germany have already confirmed their participation, joining some of the best domestic talent in what is now one of the premier rowing events on the Irish rowing calendar," said Tribesmen Rowing Club president, Colin Hanley.

"We relaunched the event last year, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Word has spread about the exceptional experience and the vibrant atmosphere in Galway over St. Patrick’s weekend,” he added.

Club captain, Siobhan McCrohan, will be taking part on behalf of the Tribesmen Rowing Club. McCrohan is the current lightweight women’s single scull World Champion.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the sport to the local community while providing a fantastic event for the rowing world. We’re excited to welcome everyone to Galway this St. Patrick’s weekend,” she said.
