Love is a whole load of everything, and when the Galway Community College’s Theatre, Film and Music students brainstormed this theme, it went from flowers, to heartfelt, to twisted and hurt... and then some.
The All You Need is Love? multimedia event is the students’ response. It is a teatime theatre, film and live music show about the full spectrum of what love really is through music, monologues and montage.
Theatre students explored dramatic speeches that epitomise love in all its strange glory: love of winning, love turned bad, narcissistic love and sacrificial love. Their work features writers Marina Carr, Mark O’Rowe, James Riordan, Joseph O’ Connor and Phillip McMahon and others.
Film students chose to explore all things love in a montage reflecting real life experiences. They took to the streets of Galway to collect genuine reactions to real questions on intimacy, passion and enduring love.
Music students have composed their own arrangements to popular tunes on the theme of love. Genres include soul, country, jazz, alt rock, pop punk, new wave and opera. Expect the music of Jill Scott, Stevie Wonder, Beauty School Dropout, Ella Fitzgerald, Paddy McAloon, Left Broken and others.
