After the excitement of Christmas is over, there is no better way to relax and unwind than with a weekend of super music at Music for Galway's Midwinter Festival RAVEL, followed by a stay in The Ardilaun Hotel.
Celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the birth of Maurice Ravel, one of the most original and sophisticated composers of the 20th century, Music for Galway (MfG ) bring Ravel's genius to the city through its Midwinter Festival, which will run from Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Town Hall Theatre. Over the course of the three days, The MfG Midwinter Festival presents a wide-raging survey of Ravel's solo piano chamber and vocal music.
In addition to the musical performances, guests to The Midwinter Festival will enjoy new choreography performed for Ravel's world-famous piece, 'Boléro', which will be delivered through partnership with Galway Dance. MfG has invited Swiss pianist, François-Xavier Poizat, who is currently recording all of Ravel's piano and chamber music, to perform the bulk of the programmes. Joining Poizat for the bulk of these programmes are; violinist Gwendolyn Masin and cellist Benedict Kloeckner. Irish mezzo-soprano, Gemma Ní Bhriain will also be preforming a selection of Ravel's songs.
