Using mobile phones inside the state of the art newly opened 50-bed ward block at Portiuncula Hospital is proving problematic, the HSE regional health forum was told on Tuesday.
Cllr Alan Harney told the forum in the form of a question that the issues had been highlighted and he asked if steps are being taken to improve this as the lack of a good mobile phone signal is causing patients and families some concerns.
Ann Cosgrove, Integrated Health Area Manager, Galway Roscommon acknowledged that there have been issues and that the matter is being addressed.
“There is currently an issue with mobile phone coverage in the new 50 bedded replacement ward block,” she said.
“This is similar to other sites. Nationally IT are reviewing all sites and are prioritising sites to improve cellular coverage – this work will progress in 2025,” she concluded.
