Blended theatre to tell carers' stories

Everything Falls by Brokentalkers

Everything Falls is a contemporary performance that blends choreography, original song and documentary material into a theatrical production at the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday, November 26, at 8pm.

It has been many years in the making. In 2013 Brokentalkers’ Co-Artistic Director Gary Keegan and Shaun Dunne collaborated on a production I’ve To Mind Her, which was created for Dublin Youth Theatre. I’ve to Mind Her explored the experience of a young person caring for an adult family member.

The theme of care was something both Brokentalkers and Shaun were always keen to explore again. Collectively, they felt that the experience of family carers is often forgotten, unseen or willfully ignored. Family carers save the government €20 billion a year in unpaid care, without which our health and social care system would collapse. And so, with the help of Family Carers Ireland, they began conducting interviews with a number of carers across Ireland to capture their experiences. Their testimony has become the basis of the text, music and movement of Everything Falls.

Over the last number of weeks, all these elements have been pulled together to create a dynamic production that features stunning design, dance, music and performance to articulate the experiences of family carers.

“Although some might think that the show may be very heavy because of its theme, it actually has a lot of light moments, filled with love and joy,” the writers say.

The show features a brand new score by Sean Millar, performed by a live band including Maud Lee (violin & vocals ), Dan Fitzpatrick (guitar & vocals ), Kim Porcelli (cello & vocals ) and Bryan O’Connell (drums & vocals ).
