The Football Association of Ireland has inducted Galway native Nora 'Nono' McHugh into their Hall of Fame in recognition for her extraordinary contributions to Irish football.
The Hall of Fame is reserved for those who have made an unparalleled impact on Irish football. Nono has become just the sixth woman to receive this accolade, solidifying her place as one of the great pioneers of the sport.
McHugh was the first-ever captain of the women's national team, she led Ireland during its formative years, embodying courage, determination, and pride every time she wore the green jersey. She was renowned for her leadership on and off the pitch.
She was a trailblazer during a time when opportunities for women in football were limited. Nono’s induction is a milestone for Irish football, recognising her pivotal role in shaping the sport.
Nono reflected on her journey after the ceremony: "Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is the greatest honour of my career.
"It’s not just about me; it’s about all the women who fought for the game we love. I’m proud to have been part of that journey, and I hope my story shows young girls that dreams can come true."
