The Cancer Care West Support Centre in Galway has announced their Peer Support Group Winter schedule. These support groups provide a platform for those affected by cancer to come together – to connect, to share experiences, to ask questions of each other and sometimes to simply chat and laugh together.
The schedule includes monthly meetings for men and women who are living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis and bi-monthly meetings for the partners of those affected by cancer. Support Groups for those living with Multiple Myeloma and Prostate cancer are also on offer. This Winter a special workshop for those who are caring for cancer patients has been added to the schedule, where caregivers can discuss adjustment, coping and resilience in the face of cancer.
Peer support when dealing with cancer can be helpful in many different ways, from providing information about cancer and it’s treatment, to fostering a sense of community and empowerment. Hosted by Cancer Care West staff, with occasional guest speakers, each group comes together in a relaxed atmosphere, in which everyone feels welcome. There is no charge to attend.
