The establishment of a dedicated Galway City Taskforce would be positive news that would be broadly welcomed, a Fine Gael General Election candidate has said.
Senator Seán Kyne, Fine Gael General Election candidate for Galway West said he is listening to the people of Galway every day who tell him that they are worried about the future of their city.
“They are concerned about trade and business, relentless traffic and the fact that visitors and shoppers may find alternatives if something isn’t done.”
“I will be supporting the establishment of a Galway City Taskforce to develop and implement strategies to rejuvenate the city. This taskforce should bring together representatives from Galway Local Authorities, An Garda Síochána, public services, community health, businesses, unions, arts, culture, tourism, and experts in urban design and architecture.
“Collaboration will be key. By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, we can create a vision for Galway’s future that prioritises safety, investment, businesses, vibrant community life and traffic solutions.
“I’m delighted that Fine Gael has committed to appointing taskforces in cities throughout the country. Galway needs a renewed focus and direction, and I will be advocating strongly for such a move. Key priorities should include:
· Enhancing city centre safety and public spaces.
· Driving major infrastructure projects, Galway City Ring Road and improved public transport.
· Investing in healthcare with major investment in UHG and a new surgical hub and elective hospital.
“Galway has incredible potential,” Senator Kyne concluded. “With the right leadership and investment, we can make Galway a stronger, and more vibrant city for everyone.”
