Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its first ever mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV ) model, the e-Vitara.
Production will commence at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India next spring, with sales expected to begin in Europe around summer 2025.
The e-Vitara is based on the concept model eVX, which was first revealed just under two years ago. No range figures have been quoted just yet, but there will be two battery options: a 49kWh, 2WD e-Vitara, and a 61kWh available with either 2WD or 4WD.
The 41kWh battery powers a 106kW motor, while the larger battery is available in either 128kW (2WD ) or with a twin-motor 135kW output. The 4WD version is also said to come with a ‘Trail’ mode.
According to Suzuki, the e-Vitara is 4.2m long, 1.8m wide and 1.6m tall, weighing between 1,702kg and 1,899kg. There will also be a choice of either 18- or 19-inch wheels.
Suzuki president Toshihiro Suzuki said: “The e-Vitara is our first BEV, developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers. Introduction of the e-Vitara represents a significant milestone in achieving carbon neutrality.
“Following the launch of the e-Vitara, we will continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions.”
Back in July, Suzuki announced plans to axe several models ahead of its electric future. This includes the Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis and Swace, from early next year.
Following the arrival of the e-Vitara, the brand plans to launch an EV every year through to 2030.
