Young musicians prepare for TradFest

Celebrated trad musicians Máirtín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, and Seamie O’Dowd will take to the stage at Monroe’s Live this Friday, November 15, from 8:30pm as part of the inaugural Galway TradFest which began this week.

Known for their formidable music relationship, these three master musicians are figureheads of Irish trad, showcasing astounding skills, diversity, and virtuosity.

This performance promises to be a celebration of the depth and richness of traditional music, delivered by three of its most accomplished ambassadors.

A new initiative by Music Generation Galway, Galway TradFest features concerts, masterclasses in music, song and dance, a festival session trail, instrument taster sessions, theatre, and a range of Irish traditional music activities.

It is hoped that Galway TradFest and its educational programme (GEATA ) will become an annual event which will be celebrated county-wide, and overtime attract visitors from across Ireland and the world.

Máirtín O’Connor is one of the most respected and beloved musicians to emerge from Ireland. As a soloist with the original Riverdance orchestra, and a member of renowned groups such as De Dannan, Midnight Well, and Skylark, Máirtín has set a precedent for accordion players worldwide. His prolific writing has produced a wealth of new material, with his tunes featured on numerous recordings and sessions around the globe.

Cathal Hayden is a name synonymous with traditional Irish music. A multiple All-Ireland Championship winner, he gained international acclaim as a founding member of Four Men and a Dog. Renowned as one of Ireland’s top fiddlers, the multi-instrumentalist is also known for his show stopping solo banjo performances.

Deeply rooted in the traditional music of Sligo, Seamie O’Dowd has also explored various genres of acoustic and electric music. He has toured the world with the legendary Sligo band Dervish, and collaborated with esteemed artists such as Liam O’Flynn, Matt Molloy, and Mary McPartlan.
