Dr. Martin Daly, a well-known GP in Ballygar and candidate in the upcoming general election for the Roscommon-Galway constituency, has called for the establishment of an interagency task force to explore and drive investment opportunities in Ballinasloe. Dr. Daly, after extensive canvassing across the area, emphasised the untapped potential of Ballinasloe, describing it as the “forgotten town of the region” in terms of investment and industry development.

Dr. Daly is urging the Department of Enterprise to lead a dedicated task force in collaboration with key government agencies, including the Department of Education and those representing the life sciences sector. The aim is to thoroughly examine and identify new avenues for economic growth in Ballinasloe, making it an attractive destination for high-value industries.

“Through my conversations with residents and business owners, it’s clear that Ballinasloe has an abundance of positive attributes, including excellent road and rail connectivity, a central location, and access to a skilled workforce from nearby third-level institutions,” said Dr. Daly. “The people of Ballinasloe feel their town has been overlooked as a destination for industry, but I see a vision where this changes – where Ballinasloe becomes a centre for life sciences, high-tech, and high-value employment.”

A primary focus of Dr. Daly’s proposal is the further development of the IDA business site in Ballinasloe, providing a solid foundation for new enterprises to thrive in the region. He envisions a future where Ballinasloe can leverage its strengths to attract investment in life sciences and technology, offering sustainable, high-quality jobs and building a resilient local economy.

“Ballinasloe deserves a fair chance to grow and prosper. With coordinated action from government bodies, I am confident we can create an environment that encourages investment, supports local talent, and ultimately revitalises the town,” added Dr. Daly.

Dr. Daly is committed to advocating for this task force and for Ballinasloe’s future as a thriving hub of industry and innovation within the Roscommon-Galway constituency.
