Atlantic Technological University (ATU ) is a newly established multi-campus university formed in April 2022, through the amalgamation of three Institutes of Technology—Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT ), Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo ), and Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT ). The university attracts learners from across Ireland, and over the last two years the university has seen significant growth in student numbers across its nine campuses.
The university offers unique advantages to its learners, and there are many reasons why educators from across Ireland advocate the university to prospective students. ATU’s strong regional presence as a multi-campus technological university offers students access to education across the regions it serves. The university is focused on regional development, community engagement, and offering students the chance to study locally. The university campuses also attract large cohorts of learners from outside the region, this is due to the lower cost of living and engaging student experience available at each of the nine university campuses.
Practical knowledge to enable future success
ATU offers a wide variety of programmes, from undergraduate to postgraduate / masters level, and the comprehensive range of discipline choices and specialisms cater to diverse student interests and career goals. The practical and career focused education as a technological university focuses heavily on applied learning, industry partnerships, and employability. With a wide range of courses on offer, 95 per cent of ATU programmes integrate internships, work placements, and practical skills that directly relate to the job market. ATU’s growing research capabilities encourages students to pursue research opportunities, or advanced studies at ATU if they are interested in contributing to innovative projects.
Accessibility and inclusivity
ATU emphasises inclusivity and access to education for people of different backgrounds, including mature students, part-time learners, and those seeking flexible learning options. ATU is committed to lifelong learning and supporting students who may not follow traditional academic pathways. The university is known for its smaller class sizes, which foster close-knit communities and personalised learning experiences. Guidance counsellors appreciate the emphasis on student support, well-being, and personal development, which is especially beneficial for students who thrive in a supportive academic environment.
ATU provides students with opportunities to study abroad, engage in international research, and collaborate with global partners. These educational opportunities broaden students' horizons and help ATU learners develop a global perspective in their chosen field of study.
Atlantic Technological University is now the university of choice because of its strong regional focus, practical and career-oriented education, supportive learning environment, and future-driven academic programmes, all of which contribute to student success and employability.
