Galway has always been renowned as a social hotspot; the people are friendly, the streets are lively and the bars are always full. In terms of the social life for a student, Galway is hard to beat.

For students who are out for the night with their friends, there are plenty of late bars which open until as late as 2am. Late bars that are popular amongst students include, the Front Door and Busker Brownes. The reopening of Electric nightclub has injected new energy into student nightlife. Students have long been crying out for a nightclub in Galway.

The pub scene in Galway is one of the finest in Ireland, there is no shortage of places to enjoy a pint and a chat with friends. Some bars host events for students regularly, Roisin Dubh host a silent disco every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Fast food establishments are plentiful, there are two Supermacs locations both at Eyre Square and on Shop Street. There are numerous restaurants for you and your friends to enjoy throughout the city. Coffee-lovers can take advantage of a number of cafes, both on the University of Galway campus and in the city centre.

The University of Galway offers students the chance to join a number of societies. This is a great way for students to connect with people who share similar interests with each other. The university hosts a 'Societies Day' every year, which gives students the chance to sign up for various societies. The different categories for societies include: Academic, Artistic and Performing, Lifestyle and Wellbeing, Social Action and Political, Social and Cultural, and Special Interest.

There is a wide array of facilities on campus that enable students to socialise. The student hub is a place for students to work on both individual and group assignments. The hub also contains pool tables, foosball tables and a kitchen for students to use. Sult, the student bar, and the Bialann, the student restaurant, are fantastic facilities for students to socialise on campus.

Most importantly, although Galway is a safe place, you can never be too careful. Make sure you and your friends stay together, look after each other and if you are drinking, do so responsibly.
