Irish scientists Niamh Shaw and Jessamyn Fairfield share first-hand experiences of their Antarctic voyages, climate insights and stories of penguins, whales and icebergs on Tuesday 12 November at University of Galway.
Galway Science and Technology Festival presents a very special event featuring respected science communicators Niamh Shaw and Jessamyn Fairfield. Both have completed separate voyages to the Antarctic, Niamh just last year and Jessamyn in 2019. Join them to hear about how their Antarctic adventures impacted them personally and professionally.
They will share how the southern oceans left them both profoundly affected by these unique experiences and how they returned to Ireland firmly committed to sharing their adventures. Tickets are limited and available on Eventbrite here.
There will be a special evening in University of Galway on Wednesday 13 November on Artificial Intelligence (AI ) and how it will affect your life, now and well into the future. Presented by Galway Science and Technology Festival, the evening from 6-7pm will feature a chance to experience an immersive Augmented Reality (AR ) and Virtual Reality (VR ) experiences in the lobby of The O’Donoghue Theatre.
The demonstrations will be followed by a talk with AI experts including the fascinating speaker Professor Edward Curry and fellow University colleagues Professor Cornelia Connolly and Dr. Conor Judge.
Ed will discuss the origins of AI, review how it has developed over the last half-century plus he will explain exactly what these developments mean for you in your everyday life. The evening will also include tips on how young adults can begin their own AI projects and follow exciting evolutions in AI, which are happening all around us at breakneck speed. The event will be followed by a short Q&A with the speakers.
