Fresh from supporting Kneecap at the Button Factory, Tallaght’s own hip-hop innovator, Curtisy, will perform at Monroe’s Live this Saturday, November 9, at 11pm.
He will bring his singlar “swampy and weird” sound to Galway for an eclectic mix of humour, introspection, and genre-defying rap.
It has been a whirlwind year for Curtisy following the release of his album What Was The Question, debuting at number three in the official Irish Indie charts. His rise coincided with that of several other Tallaght rappers, with a localised vibe emerging as a distinctive force in Irish music.
Curtisy made his start during Lockdown in 2020, quickly gaining a dedicated listenership. With inspirations including Wiki and Earl Sweatshirt, he has carved a niche with lush, abstract hip-hop. His shows embrace raw punk charisma, bringing together personal storytelling with offbeat rhythms. Themes of mental health, identity, and resilience drip with wit, and his style has been championed by Irish hip-hop royalty, Kojaque.
His home studio - a converted shed in Tallaght - is both a sanctuary and Curtisy’s workspace, allowing him to create music that reflects his world. Staying grounded is essential to his artistic mission, and he is determined to make his mark at home before considering a move abroad.
Curtisy has played at venues and festivals across Ireland, and made his London debut supporting Kean Kavanagh at The Courtyard Theatre. Support on the night is from Lil Skag.
