The unmissable annual Galway Science and Technology Festival Exhibition Day will return to the University of Galway campus on Sunday, November 10 supported by main sponsor Medtronic and University of Galway as lead academic sponsor. All ages are welcome and free to explore immersive interactive stands by world leading global companies, local schools and research centres plus exciting shows and workshops inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Since 2010, the University of Galway, the festival’s academic partner, has hosted the exhibition, which has grown to encompass numerous spaces on campus. University of Galway President, Professor Peter McHugh commented “University of Galway is delighted to invite the community to this innovative STEM Exhibition. This event demonstrates the University’s dedication to encouraging innovation and sparking interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By engaging the public, particularly young minds, the University of Galway is highlighting the crucial role that STEM plays in creating a better future for society and for the planet.”
This is a completely free event, but to help people plan their day the festival will release 70% of tickets for shows and workshops for people to book on Saturday, November 2 at 9am on Eventbrite https://galwayscience.eventbrite.ie. The remaining 30% of tickets will be available on the day for people to queue for individual shows.
The exhibition will include three exhibition halls including the inspiring Medtronic Hospital, the many exhibits in the Bailey Allen Hall and the University of Galway Experience at the O’Donoghue Centre. Workshops and shows will include the return of the ever-popular Cell Explorers; Kitchen Chemistry, and Teddy Bear Hospital and not one but two Bug Doctor shows. New to the programme this year will be the Bridge Build, Virtual Reality workshop and the very exciting live Dinosaur Show taking attendees on a prehistoric dive into the land of the dinosaurs.
Festival Manager Anne Murray encourages pre-booking if possible but reminds people that advance tickets are not essential. “You do not need a ticket for the main exhibition stands at the Bailey Allen Hall, Medtronic Hospital and the University of Galway Experience, so all are welcome throughout the day.”
Galway Science and Technology Festival will run from the 10 - 22 of November, celebrating 27 years of inspiring young people and the public about the world around us. Since 1998 the Festival has inspired young people to develop an interest in science and technology, and consider these fields for their future studies and career. The Festival engages with people of all ages and encourages them to be curious and interested in the world around us.
