Independent TD Sean Canney has announced he will be running for re-election in the upcoming General Election. He served as a minister of state from 2016 to 2017 and again from 2018 to 2020, and was also mayor of County Galway from 2007-2008.
TD Canney said, “Having been elected a TD to represent the constituency of Galway East at national level in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, I have been honoured to serve the people of East Galway as an Independent TD over the last 9 years."
He went on to say that while Galway East is a great place to live and raise a family, there are several issues that need to be addressed such as farming, housing, health care, carers, infrastructure, public transport and disability matters.
He went on to say, "I welcome back the areas in the east of the county which are now restored to the constituency. Areas include Dunmore, Garrafrauns, Williamstown, Glenamaddy, Clonberne, Moylough, Mountbellew and Kilconnell, all of which were part of the constituency previously."
He added that he will continue to represent the constituency and looks forward to his campaign.
