Fine Gael Cllr Clodagh Higgins, is calling for the installation of CCTV cameras in rural communities to enhance security and deter criminal activity. Many towns in close proximity to the motorway makes them vulnerable to opportunistic burglaries.

Cllr. Higgins said, "Take, for example, Athenry, Loughrea and Gorts location near the motorway makes them an attractive target for criminals looking for a quick getaway. We need to be proactive in ensuring that our towns and villages are safe, and the introduction of CCTV cameras will act as a significant deterrent to would-be burglars."

Cllr. Higgins emphasised that the installation of CCTV cameras will not only help prevent crime but also assist Gardaí in investigating and prosecuting offenders.

"CCTV has proven to be an effective tool in deterring crime and aiding investigations across the country. I believe that having this in place in rural communities is essential to protecting our homes, businesses, and public spaces. The safety and security of our community must be top priority. I will continue to push for the implementation of these measures and work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that our rural communities remain a safe and secure place to live and work." Cllr Higgins concluded.
