A group of Galway men, friends since their college years, completed the well known Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday to raise funds for Galway Autism Partnership.
Needless to say many long hours of training were dedicated in the lead-up, changes to day-to-day life to support being their best selves on the day, some varied levels of running experience among them but all with the shared goal of completing the marathon and raising funds for GAP, a local charity which supports autistic individuals and their families across the city and county.
When the friends decided that they would run the marathon, they added the extra layer of purpose by doing it in the name of raising funds for an organisation. As a charity that supports autistic individuals, GAP is always looking to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. The next project at GAP House will be wheelchair access at the front entrance of the house. The funds raised from the Run4GAP GoFundMe page will be used towards the cost of this project.
"We are beyond proud of the lads and their amazing achievement at the weekend and also truly humbled that Ryan, James, Evan, Cian, Johannes, Jordan and Liam Ran 4 GAP," a spokesperson for the charity said. "Maith sibh lads!"
