Fresh from completing a tour of North America, first stop for the Celtic Tenors will be Galway’s Town Hall Theatre next month.
Known internationally for their blend of classical, folk, and contemporary music, singers Mathew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson will appear in Galway on Friday, November 1, as part of their 25th anniversary tour.
In 1997 Mathew Gilsenan from Co Meath gave up his engineering career to become a professional singer, starting the Celtic Tenors with James Nelson. Sligoman Nelson has appeared in more than 50 operas across the world. He is also a writer and charity activist in Kenya.
Classicly trained Daryl Simpson from County Tyrone prides himself on mentoring young musical talent. In the wake of the Omagh bomb in 1998, Simpson formed the Omagh Community Youth Choir, bringing young people together to promote peace and reconciliation through music. The group’s international success included headlining Glastonbury, and recording with Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
The Galway event with be the Celtic Tenors’ first performance back in Ireland, followed by more dates in Cork, Dublin, Kerry and Wexford.
