The Galway Races Summer Festival Ball that took place in August has raised €92,172 for jockey Graham Lee. An additional €11,686 was donated by Tote for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.

Graham Lee who has been one of the biggest names in the horse racing community suffered a life changing accident last year at the Newcastle Races. In response, the Galway Races Summer Festival Ball was organised to show support for his recovery.

Guests were welcomed by Gráinne Seoige and Brian Gleeson, and were presented with a gourmet dinner and live music performed by The Galway Tenors, Irish dancers Cáirde and band Sean Slattery and the Connections. The highlight of the evening was the auction led by Colm O'Donnellan which featured exclusive racing memorabilia.

The guest list featured a variety of big names such as legendary jockey Sir AP McCoy, riders Patrick Mullins and Rachael Blackmore, and trainers Ado McGuinness and Peter Fahey. Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Peter Keane, Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, and Darragh O’Loughlin CEO of the Irish Horse Racing Regulatory Board also all made an appearance.

The funds raised will make a significant difference not only in Graham's life but also in supporting the welfare of jockeys via the Injured Jockeys Fund.
