Fianna Fáil Councillor Josie Forde has urged Galway City Council to finish the fencing around the newly constructed soccer pitch in Corrib Park. While the pitch is nearing completion, only half of the area has been properly fenced, leaving it exposed to potential damage.
Councillor Forde emphasized the importance of fully securing the pitch to protect this valuable asset for the local community. “The new soccer pitch is a massive asset to Corrib Park and will provide a much-needed recreational space for young people in the area. However, without complete fencing, the pitch is vulnerable to misuse and damage. It is essential that the council takes immediate action to safeguard this facility,” Forde said.
She further highlighted the pitch’s potential to enhance social inclusion and provide a positive outlet for young people in the area. “Facilities like this are not just about sports; they’re about community building, offering a safe space for our youth, and encouraging social engagement. It’s a critical investment in the future of Corrib Park, and completing the fencing is a small but vital step in ensuring it serves the community well,” she added.
The new pitch is set to be a central hub for local sports, promoting healthy activity and community engagement. Forde is calling on the council to prioritize the completion of the fencing to ensure the long-term protection and success of the pitch
