Speaking at the announcement of free HRT this week, Green Party Senator Pauline O’Reilly said it has been an uphill battle getting free HRT over the line, but it has absolutely been worth it.
Sen O’Reilly said that she would like to thank Minister Donnelly for hearing the voices of the women of Ireland and for agreeing to work with her in getting this over the line.
“The menopause and menopausal symptoms can be a very challenging time for women.
“HRT can help to alleviate symptoms and help to improve quality of life for women at this stage in their lives. However, the cost of HRT can be prohibitive for some women,” she said.
Sen O’Reilly said that it is for this reason that she pushed for free HRT in Budget 25.
“No woman should be forced to stop treatment due to financial pressures. As women we have a tendency to put others in our household before ourselves.
“Removing the financial burden for HRT means that women can concentrate on their own health without guilt,” she added.
