October is breast cancer awareness month and Galway-based charity, the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI ), is asking everyone to consider holding a fundraising event at their work place, school or home in aid of the charity throughout the month.
A ‘Pink Day’, coffee morning, ‘Pink Party’ or a cake sale, every cent counts and gives a chance to have some fun while supporting breast cancer research.
The National Breast Cancer Research Institute raises funds in support of the breast cancer research team lead by Professor Michael Kerin and based at the Lambe Institute, University of Galway. The institute-funded researchers are currently working on major national and international projects to improve the diagnosis and treatment for those diagnosed with breast cancer, where current statistics show that one in seven Irish women will develop breast cancer before they reach the age of 75 with over 3,500 cases diagnosed annually.
You can also support the charity through the many fundraising events they are staging during the month. On Sunday, October 13 ‘Swim in Pink’ takes place nationwide where everyone is encouraged to take a dip, splash or swim for breast cancer research.
