Celebrating 40 years: The Bish Class of 1984 reunites at Taylor’s Bar

Tonight (Thursday Oct 3 ), the Leaving Certificate Class of 1984 from Saint Joseph’s College, affectionately known as “The Bish,” will gather at Taylor’s Bar on Dominick Street Upper from 8pm to celebrate four decades since they left the halls of their alma mater.

This milestone reunion promises to be a great evening filled with nostalgia, laughter, and reconnections.

Since those formative years, the world has witnessed remarkable events, including in those years, the successful maiden voyage of the Discovery space shuttle and the release of the iconic charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Bob Geldof and Band Aid.

At The Bish, Brother Angelus, fondly nicknamed “Ding Dong,” marked his 10th year as principal, a tenure that would last until 1990. Under his approachable leadership, Brother Angelus fostered strong relationships among students and staff, creating a nurturing environment that many past pupils fondly remember.

As the class members have spread their wings to all corners of the globe, tonight’s gathering serves as an informal opportunity to catch up on stories and experiences from the past 40 years. The camaraderie forged during their time at The Bish has left a lasting impact, and tonight is about rekindling those connections.

The class are excited to welcome any former teachers who might join the evening. They assure everyone that while memories of wild nights at Rumours, CJ’s, The Warwick or Oasis nightclubs might come flooding back, tonight’s gathering will be a more subdued affair, focused on conversation and reminiscence.

So, whether you’ve travelled from afar or are just down the road, the Class of 1984 invites you to join them at Taylor’s Bar this evening. It promises to be a night of laughter, shared memories, and connections—a celebration of a special class that has navigated the many twists and turns of life since their days at The Bish.
