Cllr Alan Harney has called on the HSE to take action on the former health centre in Ballygar which has been lying dormant for the past number of years.

Cllr Harney raised the issue of Ballygar Health Centre at the last meeting of the HSE regional health forum when HSE confirmed to him that primary care services are continuing to review their accommodation needs in Ballygar.

“While they are still reviewing the position, they have indicated that the former health centre does not meet its needs for the provision of enhanced GP and primary care services as well as appropriate parking space.”

“While some works have been undertaken in recent months to improve the facade of the fire damaged building, it remains an eyesore in the centre of Ballygar,” he said.

He said he has asked the HSE to expedite the process of making a decision on the future of the building so that it can be disposed of.

“I know that Ballygar Tidy Towns and the wider community would like to see the building brought into use as a community space,” he said.

“I am of the view that this would be a very appropriate use for the building and I will be continuing to work with the community in Ballygar so that we can secure a future use for the former health centre,: Cllr Harney concluded.
