A total of €120,000 from the 2024 Galway Wind Park Community Fund has been distributed to 38 community groups. The distribution was made during a presentation event held on the 24 September in Oughterard, County Galway.

The Galway Wind Park Community Fund offers funding to community groups within a 20km radius of the wind farm, with preference given to projects within a 5km radius. The funds are allocated to various groups that foster community development. Recipients included community groups devoted to teaching children how to code, improving men’s mental health and supporting domestic violence victims.

One institution awarded funding was Newcastle GAA Club, which was able to install a solar panel system on the roof of the club. Robert Keane, Finance Committee, Rahoon Newcastle GAA Club said, “This award from the Galway Wind Park Community Fund, alongside a SEAI grant and our club’s own fundraising, will enable us to complete the installation for a 14.7 KWP domestic rooftop solar panel system on the roof of the community club house to allow us to generate clean, efficient and more affordable energy for the club.

Anne Reynolds, Community Investment Manager for SSE Renewables (co owner of Galway Wind Park ), stated, “ It was brilliant to meet the inspiring recipients of this year’s Galway Wind Park Community Fund this evening, and present them with their well-deserved funding. SSE Renewables takes immense pride in empowering local groups across Galway alongside our partners Greencoat Renewables.”
