St Thomas and Sarsfields have booked themselves a spot in the semi finals of the Windows and Rooflights LTD Senior A Championship while Ardrahan will take on Athenry and Oranmore Maree will take on Mullagh in the quarter finals. Carnmore and Davitts will have to go to battle in the relegation final.
While in the Senior B Championship, Clarinbridge and Salthill Knocknacarra topped their groups and are straight into the semi finals while Castlegar face Kinvara and Shamrocks face Craughwell in the quarter finals with Mountbellew Moylough and Eyrecourt going to battle in relegation fight. Finally in the Duanes Hardware Intermediate Championship, Cappataggle and Liam Mellows will face a play off battle next week to see who will progress into the knockout stages.
Sarsfields 2-17 Carnmore 0-2
Sarsfields had a comfortable win over Carnmore in their final group game. They managed to hold Carnmore scoreless in the opening half. Two Klara Dohonue goals along with points from Donohue, Rachel Murray, Niamh McGrath, Siobhán McGrath and Caoimhe Kelly meant that Sarsfields went in 2-7 to 0-0 ahead at half time.
Second half scores from Donohue, the McGrath sisters and Sarah Spellman helped in extending Sarsfields lead. Carnmore did register two points through frees from Allanah Fahy and Niamh Fox but it wasn’t enough as Sarsfields ran out 2-17 to 0-2 winners on the day and progress onto another county semi final while Carnmore will face a relegation battle with Davitts.
Ardrahan 0-11 Oranmore Maree 0-11
A late Ailish O’Reilly point in the seventh minute of added time meant that Ardrahan and Oranmore Maree had to share the spoils in Gort on Saturday. Kate Devereux opened the scoring on the 4th minute with a point from play for Ardrahan. O’Reilly, Oranmore Maree’s only scorer of the half, opened their accounts on the 6th minute through a free. Scores were hard to come by with both defences on top. Rebecca Gardiner and Devereux, through a free, gave Ardrahan a two point lead at the midway point of the half. The game went 11 minutes without a score before O’Reilly registered Oranmore Maree’s first score in 19 minutes with a free. She followed up 3 minutes later with another free to bring the sides level. Devereux and O’Reilly swapped scores in added time as both sides went in level at 0-4 a piece.
Devereux and Ava Lynskey got two quick-fire points for Ardrahan in the opening two minutes of the half. Oranmore Maree went into the lead for the first time with 0-4 Ailish O’Reilly points, 0-3 from frees, between the 34th and 46thminutes. Deveruex clawed one back for Ardrahan but points from Eimear O’Donovan and O’Reilly left 0-4 between the sides with 7 minutes of normal time remaining. Ardrahan fought back well in the final five minutes of normal time with three Deveruex points and a point from Ava Lynskey to leave Ardrahan in front on the 61st minute. It looked like Ardrahan were going to hold out but a free for a foul on O’Reilly in the 67th minute, directly in front of the posts, was slotted over the bar by O’Reilly as the sides finished deadlocked at 0-11 apiece.
Athenry 3-14 Mullagh 0-10
A strong second half from Athenry helped them in their victory over Mullagh in Gort on Saturday. Sabina Rabbitte opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a free and a point from play. Player of the year nominee, Aoife Donohue, opened Mullagh’s account on the fifth minute through a free. Rabbitte added two more to Athenry’s tally, one through a free, while Tegan Canning slotted over a point for Mullagh to leave two between the sides after 14 minutes. Rachel Monaghan brought the sides level by the 18th minute as she slotted two frees. Noreen Coen and Canning swapped scores by the 25th minute but two goals in the space of a minute for Athenry through Mollie Noone and Rabbitte meant that Athenry went in 2-5 to 0-5 ahead at half time.
Donohue and Aoife Connaughton pointed for Mullagh either side of a free from Rabbitte in the opening two minutes of the half. 1-2 from Rabbitte in the space of seven minutes extended Athenry’s lead even further. Monaghan pointed a free at the midway point of the half but Eimear Keane and Rabbitte followed up with two more scores for Athenry. Monaghan slotted over two more frees by the 51st minute but it was Athenry who finished the strongest with three Rabbitte frees and a point from Katie O’Dwyer as Athenry ran out 3-14 to 0-10 winners on the day.
St Thomas 1-15 Davitts 1-9
St Thomas booked their spot straight in the Senior A Semi finals after a six point win over Davitts on Sunday morning in Kilbeacanty. Aine Keane and Tracy Murray got St Thomas off the mark by the fourth minute. Catherine Hanley replied with two to bring the sides level a minute later. Keane pointed a free for St Thomas but Siobhan Coen found the back of the net for Davitts by the 12th minute to give them the lead for the first time.
Two more Hanley points and one from Claire Blake helped in extending their lead but points but Keane and Lorraine Coen hit back for St Thomas. Thomas finished the half the strongest with a brace of scores through Keane, Cone and a long range effort from Sarah Healy as St Thomas went in 0-10 to 1-5 in front at the break.
Hanley brought the sides level by the 3rd minute of the second half but St Thomas’ went on another scoring spree with points from Healy, Aoife Brennan, Aine Keane and a goal from Marie Farrell to leave them six points in front at the midway point. Hanley and Keane exchanged two scores each before the end of the half but it was St Thomas who progress on to the knockout stages of the championship.
Senior B
Clarinbridge 2-17 Shamrocks 3-13
A late goal in injury time for Siobhán Carr sealed the victory for Clarinbridge in Kilbeacanty. Carrie Dolan and Niamh Niland swapped scores with Katie Gilchrist and Rachel McInerney in the opening four minutes. Two more McInerney points and a penalty from Gilchrist left Shamrocks in the driving seat by the 9th minute. Four Carrie Dolan points and one from Niland helped bring Clarinridge back into the game but Gilchrist pointed another free for Shamrocks to keep one between the sides by the 21st minute. Leah O’Halloran got her first score for Shamrocks on the 22nd minute but two more Dolan frees and another from Niland saw Clarinbridge take the lead. Tara Lawless did get in for a goal in injury time for Shamrocks however, as they went in 2-6 to 0-10 in front at the break.
McInerney from play and Dolan through frees shot 0-2 points each at the start of the second half. Gilchrist followed up with two more scores for Shamrocks to extend their lead to 0-4. Dolan and Niamh McInerny swapped scores by the 41stminute but 1-1 from Niland and a free from Dolan meant Clarinbridge reclaimed the lead by the 47th minute. The lead was short lived as Rachel McInerney found the back of the net three minutes later. Dolan, Niland and Gilchrist all exchanged points by the 60th minute but Carr’s goal two minutes into injury time meant Clarinbridge came away one point winners on the day and booked their place in the semi finals.
Craughwell 1-11 Mountbellew Moylough 0-9
Craughwell ran out four -oint victors under lights on Friday night in Gort. Leah Murphy and Vivian Blaine swapped scores on the third minute. Craughwell got a run on Mountbellew Moylough through two Blaine frees and one from Chloe Allen. Katie Mannion hit back with two for Mountbellew Molough by the 22nd minute but it was Craughwell who finished the half off the strongest with a goal from Aleisha Callanan and points from Blaine and Allen as they went in six points in front.
Mountbellew came out fighting in the second half with points from Murphy (0-2 ) and Mannion to reduce the deficit to 0-3 by the 35th minute. Blaine and Maressa Howley swapped scores by the midway point of the half. Craughwell kicked on again with points through Niamh Duffy and 0-2 from Blaine. Howley and Mannion pointed before the end of the game for Mountbellew Moylough while Blaine got her 8th point of the day on the 55th minute as Craughwell came away victorious.
Eyrecourt 4-8 Kinvara 2-12
Eyrecourt registered their first win in the Senior B Championship as they came away two point winners over Kinvara. Ella Bergin opened the scoring for Kinvara with two points by the 1st minute.Aideen Lyons followed up for Eyrecourt four minutes later with a free for their opening score. Mia Rodgers and Lisa Sheils pointed for Kinvara either side of a Lyons free to leave two between the sides at the midway point of the half.
Bergin pointed another free on the 18thminute but Niamh Treacy brough the sides level by the 20th minute when she found the back of the net for Eyrecourt. Ellen Bermingham followed up two minutes later with a goal for Kinvara and restored their lead. Lyons pointed a free before Aoibheann Barry and Treacy swapped goals on the 24th and 25th minutes. Amanda Lynch and Bergin swapped scores before the end of the half as Kinvara went in two points in front at the break.
Bergin opened the scoring in the second half again with a point in the first two minutes. 1-1 from Lyons by the 41stminute saw Eyrecourt take the lead. Barry and Bergin pointed for Kinvara while Lyons slotted two frees for Eyrecourt to leave them one in front. Sara Shiels and Barry pointed for Kinvara to give them the lead again by the 53rd minute. Lyons and Sara Shiels swapped scores before the end but a late goal, one minute into injury time from Jasmine Gohery meant that Eyrecourt came away two point winners on the day.
Salthill Knocknacarra 2-12 Castlegar 3-5
Salthill Knocknacarra opened the scoring with points from Laura Kelly (0-2F ), Nessa Daly (0-2 ) and Clodagh McCormack in the opening eight minutes. Chloe Broderick scored two points either side of a Kelly. 1-1 from Aoibhe Joyce and a free from Kelly meant that Salthill Knocknacarra were on top by nine points by the 26th minute. A goal from Elaine Murphy on the 29th minute brought Castlegar back into it while Kelly and Broderick swapped frees at the end of the half to leave six between the sides.
Kelly and Broderick pointed a free each in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Scores were scarce but Caoimhe Callaghan gave Castlegar a lifeline on the 46th minute when they found the back of the net for their second major of the day. Joyce and Broderick, through a free, exchanged scores by the 49th minute. A goal from Aoibhe Dillon and a point from Aoife Kelly, extended Salthill Knocknacarra’s lead by the 56th minute. Callaghan did get in for her second goal three minutes into injury time for Castlegar but it wasn’t enough as Salthill Knocknacarra ran out four point winners on the night.
