Tuam Cathedral illuminated for Culture Night

As part of this year’s Culture Night Late, Galway County Council will proudly present Lumina, a series of artistic outdoor projections on The Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as Tuam Cathedral. Lumina will take place tomorrow, Friday, September 20 from 9:30pm.

Albert Dolan, Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council said: “Join Galway County Council, Culture Works and Creative Places Tuam for this flagship event as we celebrate the town’s cultural vibrance with the community of Tuam. In the true spirit of Culture Night everyone is welcome!”

This breath-taking night time spectacle will captivate audiences as the facade of the Tuam Cathedral is transformed into a canvas of light and sound through projections and live choral performances.

Liam Conneally, Chief Executive, Galway County Council said: “Culture Night and Lumina showcase the artistic and cultural offering of Tuam and north Galway which is to be admired and enjoyed”.

Audiences will witness the work of four local, national and international artists that have all taken part in Cybernate, a digital arts residency that supports artists to develop their artistic practice.

“Lumina is the unmissable event of our Culture Night programme this year. We’re delighted that work by Tuam artist Jennifer Cunningham will be projected in her local town at a huge scale for all to see”, said Sharon O’Grady, Galway County Arts Officer.

Jennifer Cunningham, Scott Robinson (Limerick ) and ENTER.black founders Bonnie Lisbon and Harry Clunet-Farlow (Paris ) are creating a stunning showcase of animations and visual narratives that will mesmerise audiences. The work will be accompanied by a unique music composition from ENTER.black, paired with the enchanting voices of Tuam Cathedral Choir and The Tome Chanters. This unique blend of art and technology promises to captivate and inspire, offering a one-of-a-kind experience that celebrates creativity and innovation in Tuam and Galway County.
