Local group, SamePage Theatre, is shaking things up with their next production by stepping into the realm of musical theatre for the first time.

They are staging Company by Stephen Sondheim & George Furth on October 2 and October 3 at An Taibhdhearc from 7:30pm.

Founded in 2017 by Robbie Walsh and Sarah Slevin, the group mainly consists of University of Galway alumni, and debuted with Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs in 2018.

They have produced eight shows in all, enjoying several sold-out runs with plays such as Harold Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter and Joshua Harmon’s Bad Jews.

While this next production is a step away from the usual for the company, many of the team has ample experience in musical theatre.

Director Robbie Walsh, Musical Director Sarah Slevin and Choreographer Shane Mullarkey all separately have been working together with Claire Power and Trading Faces Stage and Film School for many years. They transfer their musical skills to SamePage for this production.

Completing the production crew are Shifra Tobin and Tessa Croke on Costumes/Hair & Make Up, Stage Manager Aoife Lannon, Lighting Design by Aoife McGlinchey, Aisling Fitzsimons on Props, and Programme Design and Photography by Lydia Bird.

The cast consists of 14 people: Jay Hall as Robert, Celine Slevin as Sarah, Brandon Collier as Harry, Saoirse Byrne as Susan, James Boylan as Peter, Michelle Palmer as Jenny, Richard Brown as David, Erika Moore as Amy, Ruadhan Kenny as Paul, Ailbhe Slevin as Joanne, Adam O’Connor as Larry, Ellen Keane as Marta, Jessica McDonagh as Kathy and Shifra Tobin as April

The show follows Robert on the night of his 35th birthday. The confirmed bachelor contemplates his unmarried state.

Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding, his friends explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse; the habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood.

Stephen Sondheim & George Furth’s Company is regarded as a trailblazer of the dark-comedy, modern-musical genre, and features a brilliantly brisk and energetic score containing many of Sondheim’s best-known songs.

For two nights only. Tickets on sale at www.antaibhdhearc.com
