University of Galway has launched the Archway Sessions, a series of free public lectures for 2024/25.

The first set of lectures will have an emphasis on sport where sports stars and expert practitioners will present and discuss various topics, all with the ultimate aim of being accessible, fun, thought-provoking and educational.

Des Ryan, Director of Sport and Physical Wellbeing at University of Galway, will deliver the first lecture, “Suggestions and Advice for the local community from the Premier League, Professional Rugby, and Gaelic Games”, on Wednesday September 25 at 12pm in the Aula Maxima, Quadrangle.

During the lecture, Mr Ryan will be sharing some practical advice on physical activity for young people, how to support those who take part in many sports, and suggested good habits to help keep us energised for work and home life.

He will also share a simple tool that estimates the biological maturation stage of young people, while sharing some of his experience and insights from the Premier League, professional rugby, and the gaelic games.
