Music Matters and Cantairí Chonama mark milestones this weekend in Clifden

Music Matters school of music of Loughrea are celebrating their 40th year in existence this year just as Cantairí Chonama marking their 25th.

Both are coming together under Director Máire Ní Dhuibhir, to present a unique concert of music and poetry in Ireland from pre-St. Patrick times to U2 as part of the 47th Clifden Arts Festival.

This concert this Saturday (Sept 21 ) next at 4pm in St. Joseph’s Church, Clifden will begin with a blast from a pre-Christian replica horn played by Simon Dywer and take you on a journey by Stepping Stones through the monastic, Norman, English, National Revival, 1916 and modern Irish compositions of music, song and poetry up to Van Morrison and U2 times.

Poetry and song, trad and classical, solo (Úna McGlynn ) and choral, Sean Nós (Deirbhile Ní Bhrolcháin ) and modern, is something not to be missed.

The home/return aspect will occur when the concert is repeated at the Féile Raifteirí celebration on October 19 details if which will be revealed later.
