Architecture at the Edge Festival is known for its inspired cultural experiences and this year the festival once again presents a compelling programme featuring installations, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, talks, tours and much more to explore from Friday September 20 to Sunday October 6.

The programme will place a special focus on the islands of Ireland with a special presentation of ‘In Search of Hy-Brasil’ at The Printworks, which was Ireland’s national pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023. There will also be a series of very special island tours on Inishbofin, Inish Oírr, Inish Mór in addition to a number of Island events in Co. Mayo. Numbers are limited and advance booking is essential.

The exhibition ‘Fantasy Islands’ which is a delightful look at fictional islands depicted across all media forms: film, TV, video games, written word and more. ‘An Bothán Cladach’, a site-specific, seaside installation, will be situated on the middle pier of Claddagh Quay with a launch performance by Shampain.

Film Highlights

On Sunday September 22, presents an opportunity to attend an exclusive screening of the film ‘Ag Lorg Hy-Brasil’ at The Town Hall Theatre. Interested in how architecture and film shape our sense of belonging? Join us at Pálás Cinema for a programme of short films produced during the week from the participants at the Film + Architecture workshop, 2024. There will also be free talks by workshop leaders Sabrina Morreale + Lorenzo Perri, Lemonot studio and Sofie Stilling, from the Royal Danish Academy.

Music Highlights

‘Once Upon A Sound’ will be a music centred evening hosted by Dónal Dineen which invites to choose a selection of audio recordings that they would take with them if they were to be cast away on a desert island as a jump-off point for a discussion about the role sound plays in their practice. ‘The Story of Hospitality’ is written by Jennie Moran, Luncheonette, and animated by dance artist Roberta Ceginskaite and accompanied by musician Seamas Hyland at The Mick Lally Theatre on September 29.
