On Friday, September 20, over 40 free events will be held across the county for culture night. Events include music, dance, theatre, art, poetry, puppetry, storytelling, film screenings, crafting and more.
This year marks the 19th year of culture night. Sharon O’Grady, Galway County Arts Officer, said, "The programme showcases our community’s vibrant and creative spirit with a wide range of cultural experiences for all ages and interests.”
Events are being supported by Galway County Council Arts Office and the Arts Council. People of all ages are welcome to partake.
Events will take place all day at Athenry, Ballinasloe, Ballinderreen, Ballygar, Claregalway, Conamara, Clifden, Gort, Headford, Kilconly, Kinvara, Newbridge, Oranmore, Portumna, Renvyle, Ros an Mhíl, Tuam, Woodford, Inis Mór, Inis Oírr and Inis Meáin.
This year, Galway County Council’s programme highlight is Lumina, a series of artistic outdoor projections on the Tuam Cathedral, featuring a live choral performance. Produced by Culture Works, Lumina will take place from 9:30pm.
In Maum, artist collective Gliogar will present a concert launching the installation Fáistineach featuring musicians Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Ultan O’Brien and Saileog Ní Cheannabháin.
On Inis Mór, The Enchanted will be performed at 5pm and 7pm. The magician, Ali Keohane will bring audiences onto Hy-Brasil, the mythical disappearing island, through stories told by actors Mikel Murfi, Jenni Nikinmaa and Tonya Lenhart.

Irish music and art will make an appearance at Kinvara Quay at The Siar Harvest Session. It celebrates the changing of seasons through rich Irish culture.
Soundwaves... Seen and Heard! will be at Middlethird Social Farm. It will will include a number of well known hits by local choirs as well as the chance to explore the farm cottage, glasshouse and garden exhibition.
Puppetry and storytelling for children will arrive to Ballinasloe Library with Monsters and Things. It will include a mixture of both Punch and Judy-style puppet box and old-fashioned rod puppetry.
