This weekend Monroe’s will host a selection of exceptional music including the best of 00s indie rock, contemporary Irish folk, and a fusion of Irish and American traditions at its Westend venue.

This Friday, September 6, and Saturday, September 7, music lovers are in for a treat with three distinct performances.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday at 7:30pm is the transatlantic duo DUG, featuring Lorkin O’Reilly and Jonny Pickett. This exciting collaboration bridges the gap between Irish folk and American old-time music, creating a fusion that reflects the heritage of both its members.

Dublin native Lorkin, who spent the last decade in Upstate New York, has released two albums and gained success on Spotify before returning home in 2022. In 2023, he teamed up with California native Jonny Pickett to form DUG, and the duo quickly made waves in the music scene. With two sold-out headline shows, a feature on Conan O'Brien's HBO series Conan Must Go, and a performance for Virgin Media, DUG is gained rapid momentum.

Inspired by legendary artists like Planxty, Paul Brady, and Karen Dalton, DUG’s sound combines Irish folk storytelling and the rhythmic drive of American old-time influences.

Later on Friday evening, at 10pm, Monroe’s Live presents Noughty, the ultimate 00s indie rock tribute band. Fans of the era can expect a night filled with nostalgia, as Noughty delivers high-energy renditions of tracks from legendary bands like Weezer, The Strokes and The Killers.

Rounding out the weekend on Saturday, September 7, at 7:30pm is the highly anticipated performance of Onóir, a contemporary folk group that has taken the music scene by storm. Known for their viral rendition of ‘The Auld Triangle’ which garnered over 3 million views online, Onóir brings a fresh take on timeless Irish ballads and folk songs.

The Donegal-based band, comprising Tom McHugh, Declan Gaughan, Deane Connaghan, and Diarmaid McGee, create a sound that is both melodic and powerful. With a mix of up-tempo songs and heartfelt melodies, Onóir’s performances are selling out across the country, thanks to their onstage chemistry and banter.
