A group of friends will trade their heels for runners as they lace up to participate in the Galway Bay Half Marathon on October 5th, 2024.
This initiative is in support of Charlotte’s Vision, a charity founded in 2022 by the friends and family of Charlotte Sweeney, in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
The charity raises essential funds for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research, with a mission to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this challenging disease.
Leading the charge is the well-known RTE Today Show Stylist and Owner of Carried Away PR, Caroline Downey, who also serves as the Chairperson for Charlotte’s Vision.
Caroline is embracing a new challenge as she takes on the 21km marathon. “I am not a big runner; my motto is slow and steady wins the race,” Caroline shared with a laugh. “So, this is definitely a challenge for me, but one I’m thrilled to undertake alongside my sister Suzanne and close friends, Eimear Kealy, Orla Tighe, and Nicola McGlinchy. We’ve been training together for weeks, and we’re all very excited to reach the finish line and do this for Charlotte and National Breast Cancer Research.”
Charlotte’s sister Denise and brother-in-law Dave will be flying in from the UK to join the group on race day, uniting in a shared purpose to honour Charlotte’s memory and support the ongoing research that could change the future of Metastatic Breast Cancer treatment.
Charlotte’s mother, Virgie, expressed her deep appreciation for the participants: “I am so proud of everyone for taking part and raising the money. We would ask that if there is anyone participating and not doing it for charity at the moment, if they would consider supporting Charlotte’s Vision and help raise funds with us. We have an iDonate page set up, so it is just about sharing the page and getting as much money in as possible.”
