Galway Rape Crisis Centre (GRCC ) has announced that its partnership with Aviva Ireland has been extended for a further two years, providing additional support as the organisation continues its critical support of survivors of sexual violence.
Through this renewed partnership, Aviva Ireland will provide €15,000 in financial support to the GRCC, enabling them to continue offering free and confidential services to survivors of sexual violence, including counselling, support groups, and accompaniment to appointments.
GRCC will also use the financial aid towards the building of its future home at Claddagh Quay in Galway. The organisation recently facilitated a virtual sexual harassment training session which was open to Aviva employees in Cork, Galway, and Dublin.
Following on from this training, the employees will volunteer their time throughout the year to support the GRCC's fundraising initiatives and raise awareness about sexual violence.
The Galway Rape Crisis Centre (GRCC ) is committed to providing a free, confidential and inclusive service to all survivors of sexual violence and abuse.
This approach has led to an increase in male survivors using GRCC's services, a positive development that reflects the centre's efforts to encourage men to seek help.
GRCC offers a comprehensive range of free services, including counselling, court and Garda accompaniment.
The centre‘s trained Psychological Support Volunteers offer invaluable support to recent victims of sexual violence while attending the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit.
GRCC is currently building a new modern, bright centre at Claddagh Quay in Galway, which will provide the service with a permanent home.
The centre continues to engage with the community through educational initiatives and outreach programmes, promoting awareness and prevention of sexual violence.
Brian O’Neill, Head of Communications, Sustainability and Sponsorship at Aviva Ireland said they are delighted to continue the partnership with GRCC who provide such vital counselling and support to individuals who have experienced sexual abuse and assault in Galway and the surrounding areas.
"This partnership aligns with our commitment to building stronger communities and fostering a safe and supportive environment for all. Unfortunately, the demand for its services continues to increase and they are dependent on the support of local businesses for their ongoing funding requirements," he said.
Previous Aviva Ireland donations have gone towards training for secondary school students, and through the challenging times of the pandemic, the company supported GRCC by supplying mobile phones and laptops, ensuring an uninterrupted provision of online counselling services.
In addition, the company has supported GRCC by updating its website, and sponsoring a new TV, projector system and a self-defence class for its employees and volunteers.
Similarly, the financial support will help GRCC continue to offer its free counselling to men, women, and adolescents from 14 years of age.
Cathy Connolly, Executive Director for Galway Rape Crisis Centre said Aviva has consistently supported GRCC’s work.
"We in GRCC value their commitment to helping survivors of rape and sexual abuse. They are leaders in our community, who have never stepped back from engaging with our work. We are so grateful to the company and its employees, and we are so proud of our partnership with them.’’
