Artist Brenda Kennelly’s new exhibition ‘Beneath our Feet’ will open at the community art gallery KAVA in Kinvara on Thursday, September 5, with a launch event at 7pm.
This will be the Ballyvaughan-based Kennelly’s first solo showing of mosaics fashioned from natural slate and stone combined with glass and vibrantly coloured enamels, called smalti.
“I love to walk the earth, noticing what’s beneath my feet”, explains Kennelly. “The natural materials I use include slate, stone, shale, glass and other objects. Each piece of stone and glass is cleaned, cut and shaped, piece by piece, to bring texture, colour and flow to the mosaic.”
The works will exhibited in KAVA at the Old Courthouse in Kinvara until Sunday, September 15.
