A Swift introduction

The new fourth generation Suzuki Swift Hybrid is one of the cheapest cars now on sale in Ireland, and comes with enhanced but familiar exterior and interior designs, an even higher standard equipment specification than before, improved performance, lower CO2 emissions and better fuel economy.

At a recent press introduction in Co Wicklow, the new Swift impressed on winding roads with thanks to a new Z12E 1.2-litre Mild Hybrid three-cylinder engine coupled with a five-speed manual transmission.

Suzuki told us that this new engine offers up to eight per cent fuel efficiency improvement versus the previous K12D engine. In its ‘Motion’ trim with manual transmission (as tested ), the new Swift Hybrid can achieve CO2 emissions of just 99g/km and combined fuel consumption of 64.2mpg, with Suzuki also claiming that 1,600km of driving that can achieved for as little as €120 (based on current fuel prices ).

The new Swift Hybrid is on sale here from €21,495 and in a two model line-up of ‘Motion’ and ‘Ultra’ grades. Suzuki expects the former to be the most popular in Ireland.

Standard equipment for this grade includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, navigation, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, Adaptive Cruise Control, wireless smartphone link display audio, keyless entry & start, Driver Monitoring System, Dual Sensor Brake Support (upgraded ), Lane Departure Warning and Weaving Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor and enhanced Traffic Sign Recognition.

Meanwhile, the Ultra trim starts from €22,695 and adds 16-inch polished alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, rear passenger heater outlet and electric folding door mirrors incorporating side turn indicators. Boot capacity in both models is 265-litres, increasing to 589-litres with the rear seats folded.

An automatic CVT Gearbox is available as optional equipment on both models (€23,495 for Motion and €24,695 for Ultra ), maintaining a claimed combined fuel consumption figure of 60.1mpg.

The new Swift is available in eight metallic colours with a further four dual tone colours available optionally incorporating either a black pearl or grey metallic roof depending on the chosen body colour.

Suzuki says an optional ALLGRIP ‘Auto’ 4WD will be introduced on the Ultra model with manual transmission later this year.
