Spiddal-based Freudenberg Medical recently celebrated the 175th anniversary of the Freudenberg Group with a special event for staff, attended by Freudenberg Medical’s CEO, Dr. Mark Ostwald, and Steven Langan, General Manager, Galway.
The Freudenberg Group, known for its diverse portfolio of global technology brands, includes a successful medical business with operations in Ireland. Freudenberg’s journey began in 1849 in Weinheim, Germany, as a modest leather tannery employing 50 people. Today, it has grown into a global enterprise with over 52,000 employees, committed to making the world cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable through innovative technology across 40 market sectors, including medical devices.
Freudenberg Medical, part of the Freudenberg Group, employs more than 3,000 people worldwide, with major operations in Ireland, in Galway and Leitrim. As a trusted partner to leading medical device companies, Freudenberg Medical makes innovative components and products that are used to treat patients with a range of health conditions from heart disease and heart rhythm disorders to stroke. The company’s Irish facilities employ over 1,000 team members producing over 16 million complex minimally invasive catheters annually for customers around the globe.
Last year, the Galway team also celebrated the official opening of a newly expanded facility in Spiddal, which doubled the existing manufacturing space and created 100 new jobs.
The Freudenberg Group’s 175-year history is a remarkable story, and the Galway team is shaping its next chapter through the development of innovative technologies for life-saving medical devices.
