Where do you go if you’re heart is broken?

Well according to one Galway medic, the answer is Connemara.

Eylül Taneri, a medical doctor and public health specialist at the University of Galway, has released a new single, ‘Connemara’, inspired by an argument with her lover.

This led Taneri to seek solace in the wild, untamed beauty of Connemara. It was during this solitary trip that the song began to take shape, infused with the sounds of the natural world that surrounded her. The gentle chirping of birds, recorded by Taneri herself, opens the track, which combines an upbeat Turkish dance beat with Taneri’s lyrics overlaid with the flow of a traditional Irish flute.

Taneri hopes ‘Connemara’ will resonate with listeners, particularly those familiar with the scenic beauty of the region. “I want this song to be a companion for those who journey to Connemara,” she shares. “I hope it helps them find the same peace and connection with nature that I did.”

This deeply personal track marks Taneri’s second English-language release and offers a reflection on her journey from the structured world of medicine to the liberating realm of music.

Though her career is rooted in science, Taneri’s passion for music has been lifelong. She began writing songs at the tender age of eight, crafting melodies and lyrics that spoke to her inner world. However, it wasn’t until 2020 that she took the leap and released her debut single, introducing the world to her unique blend of storytelling and sound.
