Free talk on tracing your Galway ancestors next week

Genealogist John Grenham will be in Galway next week to give a talk on tracing your Galway roots. The free event, organised by Galway County Council and entitled “Tracing your Galway Roots: Discover Your Family History”, is taking place as part of National Heritage Week.

The talk will take place in the council chamber at Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 20.

Mr Grenham’s talk, “Mapping Galway Records” will be followed by an interactive workshop on exploring your family history and genealogy. Expert genealogists, archivist, librarian and local community experts will guide you through the process of tracing your roots, finding ancestral records, and delving into fascinating family stories.

This event is an opportunity to gain insights from experienced professionals and community heritage groups who will provide tips and tools for successful family research. You can also connect with fellow history enthusiasts and genealogy experts, share stories, and exchange research strategies.

This event is being organised by the Heritage Office of Galway County Council in partnership with Galway County Council Archives, Local Studies, Galway Public Libraries, East Galway Family History Society, Galway Family History Society West (Limited ), Western Family History Association, Ireland XO, Oughterard Heritage, Cumann Staire Ruaidhrí Uí Fhlaitheartaigh - Moycullen Heritage, Milltown Heritage, Killererin Heritage, Moylough Heritage, Skehana and District Heritage Group and Woodlawn Heritage.
