As part of Heritage Week, the Labane Ardrahan Community Development Association ( LACDA ) is organizing the Ardrahan MileStone Cycle this Sunday, August 18. Caroline Brennan, Chair of LACDA said that the South Galway Milestones Project has been their main project for the last two years.

Karen O’Neill, volunteer said she is excited to see all the hard work of our “milestone men” on display and celebrate the preservation of heritage in the area.

“It’s great to see how this project brought various people together, and the result is amazing.

“I look forward to seeing more cyclists visit our area and seeing the restored and preserved milestones,” she said.

Cyclists are invited to meet at 2pm at the Loughane Quinn Memorial Hall.

The 16-km cycle will showcase the South Galway Milestones Project, cycling past at least three old Irish Milestones that the group restored, thanks to the support of Galway County Council and the Heritage Council.

En route, Archeologist Jerry O’Sullivan will give an interesting talk about the history of the Irish Milestones, and Seán Bermingham (Masonry Conservation Specialist ) will discuss the effort and expertise required to restore the milestones.
